Overview

Enjoy a Mount Kilimanjaro trek via the Rongai Route, a scenic 7-day northern approach through montane forest, moorland, high-altitude terrain and alpine desert before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres. This 9-day itinerary includes an arrival night in Arusha, a pre-climb briefing and equipment check, a 7-day mountain trek and a final night in Arusha before departure. You will stay at Simba Camp, Kikelewa Camp, Mawenzi Tarn, Kibo Hut and Horombo Hut, with a dedicated acclimatisation day around Mawenzi Tarn before crossing the Kibo–Mawenzi Saddle. Travel with an experienced English-speaking Kilimanjaro guide, professional porters and a dedicated support crew. Full-board meals are provided during the mountain trek, with private transfers between Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha, Rongai Gate and Marangu Gate. Choose budget, midrange or luxury accommodation in Arusha, while the mountain section uses organised camps and designated huts with professional support. This trek suits couples, friends, families and first-time Kilimanjaro climbers who want a quieter northern route, varied scenery, a longer acclimatisation profile and the option to add a Tanzania safari or Zanzibar beach extension.

Northern approach: Begin from Kilimanjaro’s quieter northern slopes.

Montane forest: Trek through forested lower slopes as the landscape gradually changes.

Mawenzi Tarn: Camp beneath the dramatic volcanic formations of Mawenzi Peak.

Acclimatisation day: Take a shorter guided hike to gain elevation before returning to rest.

Kibo–Mawenzi Saddle: Cross the stark, high-altitude landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo.

Summit night: Ascend through darkness to Gilman’s Point, Stella Point and Uhuru Peak.

Uhuru Peak: Stand at 5,895 metres for a memorable sunrise over Africa.

Northern-to-southern traverse: Begin on the northern side and descend via Marangu.

Expert guiding: Trek with experienced guides, porters and a professional mountain team.
