Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be warmly welcomed by our Pita Safaris representative and transferred to your luxury hotel in Nairobi. After check-in, spend the remainder of the day relaxing after your flight or, if time permits, enjoy an optional Nairobi experience before your unforgettable Kenya luxury safari begins. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, or the Karen Blixen Museum. In the evening, meet your professional safari guide for a safari briefing and prepare for your journey into northern Kenya.
Day 2: Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, depart Nairobi in your private customized 4×4 Safari Land Cruiser and travel north through the scenic landscapes of central Kenya toward the dramatic semi-arid wilderness of Samburu National Reserve. Enjoy the changing scenery as you leave Nairobi behind, passing farms, local communities, rolling landscapes, and views toward the Mount Kenya region before entering northern Kenya.
Arrive at your luxury safari lodge or premium tented camp in time for lunch and some relaxation before heading out for your first exciting afternoon game drive. Explore Samburu's distinctive landscapes in search of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, crocodiles, and other wildlife, while keeping watch for the reserve's unique northern species.
Your first game drive provides an opportunity to begin searching for the famous Samburu Special Five — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx — species that make Samburu one of Kenya's most distinctive safari destinations.
Day 3: Full Day Samburu National Reserve
Spend a full day exploring the spectacular Samburu National Reserve on private morning and afternoon game drives accompanied by your professional English-speaking safari guide. This is one of the highlights of your northern Kenya luxury safari, offering exceptional opportunities to encounter wildlife species that are less commonly seen in Kenya's southern safari destinations.
Search for the legendary Samburu Special Five — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and Beisa oryx — while exploring the reserve's open plains, rocky landscapes, acacia woodland, and the wildlife-rich areas around the Ewaso Ng'iro River.
You may also encounter large elephant herds, lions resting beneath acacia trees, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. Enjoy a relaxed lunch at your luxury accommodation or, where appropriate and permitted, a carefully arranged picnic lunch before continuing your afternoon wildlife adventure.
With its dramatic landscapes, distinctive wildlife, and beautiful natural light, Samburu also offers exceptional opportunities for professional and enthusiast wildlife photography.
Day 4: Samburu - Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, depart Samburu and travel south toward Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Kenya's most important wildlife conservation areas. Enjoy the changing landscapes of northern and central Kenya before arriving at your luxury accommodation near the conservancy.
After check-in and lunch, head out for an afternoon game drive across Ol Pejeta's spectacular Laikipia landscapes. The conservancy is particularly renowned for its black and white rhino conservation, while also providing habitat for lions, elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, hartebeests, and numerous other wildlife species.
During your stay, enjoy a conservation-focused experience at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where rescued chimpanzees are cared for in a protected environment, subject to opening hours and availability.
Your afternoon safari provides an exceptional opportunity to experience how luxury wildlife tourism, conservation, and responsible travel can come together while enjoying the comfort and personalized service of your carefully selected accommodation.
Day 5: Ol Pejeta - Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, leave Ol Pejeta and continue toward the spectacular Great Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya's most renowned rhino conservation destinations.
Enjoy a scenic drive through central Kenya and the dramatic Rift Valley landscapes before arriving at your luxury lodge for lunch and some relaxation. Later, embark on an afternoon game drive through Lake Nakuru's diverse habitats, searching for black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, waterbucks, lions, leopards, and other wildlife.
Depending on seasonal and lake conditions, you may also encounter flamingos and numerous other waterbirds along the lakeshore. The combination of acacia woodland, open grasslands, rocky viewpoints, and lakeside habitats creates a spectacular setting for wildlife photography.
Return to your luxury lodge in the evening to relax, enjoy dinner, and take in the beautiful surroundings of the Great Rift Valley.
Day 6: Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and journey through the scenic Great Rift Valley toward the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Travel through changing landscapes and rural communities before reaching the vast grasslands of the Mara ecosystem.
Arrive at your luxury safari lodge or premium tented camp in time for lunch before heading out on your first afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara.
This is your opportunity to begin searching for the legendary Big Five — lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos — together with cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife.
As the afternoon progresses, enjoy the breathtaking transformation of the Masai Mara beneath the warm golden African light before returning to your luxury accommodation for dinner, relaxation, and an unforgettable evening in the wilderness.
Day 7: Full Day Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend a full day exploring the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve on private morning and afternoon game drives accompanied by your professional safari guide. This is the centerpiece of your Kenya luxury Big Five safari, offering excellent opportunities to experience Kenya's spectacular predators and wildlife-rich savannah.
Search the open plains for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos, while also watching for cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species.
If traveling during the Great Wildebeest Migration season, you may witness huge herds moving through the Mara ecosystem, with river crossings occurring at certain times and locations depending on wildlife movements and seasonal conditions.
Enjoy lunch at your luxury lodge or premium tented camp, or where appropriate and permitted, experience a picnic lunch during your game-drive adventure.
For an even more memorable experience, consider adding an optional sunrise Hot Air Balloon Safari with a champagne bush breakfast, a private sundowner, or a traditional Maasai cultural village visit, subject to availability and additional cost.
Return to your luxury accommodation after your afternoon game drive for dinner and relaxation.
Day 8: Masai Mara - Nairobi / Departure
Wake early for your final morning game drive in the Masai Mara, when cooler temperatures, soft morning light, and active wildlife can create exceptional opportunities for viewing and photography.
Search for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, antelopes, hyenas, and other wildlife before leaving the reserve. After breakfast, begin your scenic return journey to Nairobi, enjoying the changing landscapes as you travel from the Mara through the Great Rift Valley and onward toward Kenya's capital.
Arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon for drop-off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your onward flight, or at your Nairobi hotel if you have arranged an additional night.
