The main rainy season, or the 'long rains', lasts during March, April, and May. Afternoon downpours are the norm, which are heavier and more predictable beside the coast and on the islands. The humidity is high and daily temperatures reach the low-mid 30s (degrees Celsius). The long dry season lasts from June to October, during which time the rainfall is unusual. Temperatures vary hugely with altitude and location, but it's usually a fine, clear sky and sunny weather.
During November and December, there's another rainy season, which is known as the 'short rains'. These are much lighter than the long rains and less reliable. If it has rained during the short rains, then it normally dries up for a few months in January and February, which is Tanzania's 'short dry season', before starting to rain again in earnest in March
Marangu Route is the easiest and shortest route up Kilimanjaro summit. The Marangu route offers moderate Kilimanjaro climbing from starting point to Kibo huts but from Kibo hut to the summit the trek need commitment as the track is strenuous. The Marangu route is simply known as the “Coca cola” route due to the facts that drinks are sold in the huts as you trek up. Marangu is also the only offering comfortable sleeping huts at every campsite with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are shared by all climbers and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillows so require fewer supplies. There are washrooms with running water at the first two huts and basic washrooms at the last huts. Meals are shared in dinning huts at each camp you can mingle around and make some stories. Soft drinks bottle water and beer are available for sale at the huts and prices increase as you hike up. The minimum trekking days on Marangu route is 5 days but can be done in 6 days and have one day resting at Horombo hut for acclimatization before you attempt the summit.
The route starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border, and is one of the least traveled routes. The descent is down the Marangu Route on the south side of the mountain, so climbers see the mountain from many view points.
The Rongai Route is one of the easiest routes and the success rate is very high. The route starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border, and is one of the least traveled routes. The descent is down the Marangu Route on the south side of the mountain, so climbers see the mountain from many view points. The drive to the trail head takes about 3 hours from Moshi through many villages and coffee plantations, including a stop to register climbing permits at Marangu. The Rongai Route can also be accessed from Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Allow 2 hours including border crossing. We will need copies of passports ahead of time.
