This trip takes you to trek the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the majestic mountain gorillas located in southwestern Uganda and home to half of the endangered mountain gorillas (approximately 400 individuals). Depending on availability of gorilla permits at the time of confirmation, you may trek gorillas in Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga or Nkuringo.
Very early in the morning we leave Kampala for a long journey towards the western part of Uganda. It is a full day drive but via a scenic route. On the way we will pass the equator where we will stop for photos and shopping. We will have lunch in the calm town of Mbarara and proceed our drive through the verdant countryside. You will pass traditional homesteads and have panoramic views of the surroundings. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge. After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and joining others for a gorilla trekking briefing about the dos and the don’ts during your Gorilla Trek. Once this is done, you will set off for gorilla tracking. Trekking through the steep, densely forested hills and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Tracking in the Bwindi forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day depending on the movements of the gorillas in search for food. On your trek, you are likely to spot other primates, birds and rare tree species. After finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with gorillas observing them and taking photos before trekking back to the Park headquarter. This is indeed an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful yet endangered Creatures. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy are other activities and excursions on offer in and around the national park. Dinner and overnight at camp/lodge. In the morning after breakfast you will drive back to Kampala or Entebbe (Airport) with en route stopover in Mbarara town for Lunch and brief stop at Equator line crossing area for photo opportunity and a bit of souvenir shopping.
Accommodation for tonight is not inclusive in the program. If you wish to depart tonight from Entebbe Airport, make sure your flight is at 10 pm or later.
