  • Route Overview

    The Machame route is known by many as the “Whiskey” route of Mount Kilimanjaro. After Marangu route, Machame is the second known popular route on the mountain offering picturesque and stunning of both Meru and Kilimanjaro landscapes. The tracks on Machame route is physical demanding and require people with some trekking experience since the tracks are strenuous. All trekkers usually come from different countries and trekkers. Sleep in tents pitched on the camping grounds and meals are served in a mass tent or blanket outside if the weather is clear. The Machame route can be done for 6 days but extra night on the mountain will power your summit success by having one more night for acclimatization. Descent is down via Mweka tracks where the final night will be at Mweka or millennium camp.

  • Day 1 Arriral Kilimanjaro Airport

    You will be met on arrival usually at Kilimanjaro Airport if you arrive by international flight or in Arusha if you arrive by internal flight or by shuttle bus from Nairobi or likewise. You will be escorted to Moshi for the rest of the day your treks will start the next day morning, depending on your arrival time our mountain guide will meet you at the hotel or airport for briefing on the next Kilimanjaro trek.   • Day 2: Hike Machame Gate 1,790 M to Machame camp 3,010 M

    After breakfast at the hotel you will be taken to the Kilimajoro National park gate. After completion of all necessary paper work your adventure commences. Your destination for today is the machine camp; you will expect a 5 to 6 hour like upto the first camp. Soon you will be hiking through the lush rainforest with its large ancient trees, primeral terms and endemic flowers, like the impatiens Kilimanjari. You might also spot black and white thumb less Columbus monkeys, peeking through the leaves. After reaching the campsite you will have time for relaxing, stretch your legs and enjoy a hearty meal before snuggling into your tent for the night. Accommodation: Machame camp.   • Day 3: Hike Machame camp 3,010 M to Shira camp 3,845 M

    Today’s early start is not due to a long stretch but rather to allow you to reach Shira camp at around mid- afternoon. As you walk you will notice the dramatic change in the landscape from Lush and green rainforest to dry moor and heath land. Arriving at your campsite with a beautiful view of the mountain range opens up before you. The glaciers of Kibo glistens in the golden hue of the setting sun as you enjoy another loving cooked meal before climbing into your tent. Accommodation: Shira camp. Meals Plan: {B, L, D}.

  • Day 4: Hike shira camp 3,845 M to Lava Tower that 4,640 M to Barranco camp 3,960 M

    Acclimatization is no todays menu, where you will climb roughly 700m, but sleep on a level not much higher than the previous night, starting at Shira plateau, you will make you way up to Lava tower (4,640m), where you will rest a while, before continuing through the Barranco valley to the beautiful Barranco camp. The trek will take approximately 6 - 7 hrs., but the various distractions of the alpine desert as well as the Barranco Valley with it’s small lobelia plants and giant senecio’s will keep your mind off the stretch still ahead. A well-deserved dinner and overnight awaits you to Barranco camp. Accommodation: Barranco Camp. Meals Plan: {B, L, D}.

  • Day 5- Hike Barranco camp 3,960 M to Karanga camp 4,035 M

    Today the Barranco wall stands before you to conquer some stages will require you to use your hands for a better grip, but no actual climbing is necessary and your guide will be with you every step of the way to lend a helping hand. The route with its numerous ascents and descents allow for further acclimatization before reaching the mountain ridge. Walking along the ridge you can take in the beautiful landscape with its stunning contrasts of desert and vegetation before finally reaching the cloudy Karanga camp. Your trek will take between 3- 4 hrs leaving more than enough time to rest and play game of rummy. Accommodation: Karanga Camp. Meals Plan: {B, L, D}

  • Day 6: Hike Karanga 4,035 M to Barafu camp 4,640 M

    Awakening to the sunlight dancing off the Kibo summit you will enjoy a heartily breakfast before setting out to today’s destination- Barafu camp. Most of the day will be spent walking through very dry deserted terrain, with Kibo ever present on your left side. After 3- 4 hrs you will reach Barafu camp where you will have an early dinner and overnight as the highlight of your trip is only a few short hours away. Accommodation: Barafu camp.   • Day 7: Hike Barafa camp 4,640 M to Uhuru peak 5,895 M to Mweka camp 3,080 M

    At around midnight you will be a woken by your guide with a warm cup of tea and biscuits to get you ready for your final ascent. The moon and your headlamps will be your only source of light as you make your way up to Stella point, reaching the crater rim in about 5 – 7hrs.Another 1-2 hrs. will take you to Uhuru peak (5895m) where you can enjoy the sun rising over the African landscape, casting a pink hue over the snowy peak and making the glaciers sparkle like diamonds around you. After capturing this incredible view achievement on film, you will start your descent along the same route back to Barafu camp where your team awaits you with some snacks and refreshments. Rested and relaxed you will make your way to Mweka camp for your last night on the highest mountain in Africa. Accommodation: Mweka Camp. Meals Plan: {B, L, D}

  • Day 8: hike Mweka camp 3,080 M to Mweka gate 1,630 M

    The final hike of your wonderful 7 day Machame route trekking begins after breakfast with a traditional farewell ceremony from the mountain crew. The moderate 2 hours walk through the rainforest continues to Mweka gate, where you will meet a transferring driver. At the gate you will sign out and obtain your Kilimanjaro certificate then you will drive back to Moshi or Arusha where you will have a long and warm shower after a tiring mountain. The rest of the day is free to rest. Accommodation: Salinero Hotel Moshi or Planet lodge Arusha. Meals Plan: {B, L, D}

  • Day 9: Departure

    After breakfast you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport or to shuttle bus to Nairobi or to your next destination. Meals Plan: {B}
